Beaker Glass The function of the beaker glass is a container that is used to stir, mix, and heat liquids. The shape of the Beaker Glass is cylindrical and is available in various sizes, ranging from 1 mL to several liters. In conducting chemical experiments, always use a beaker (glass beaker) that functions to prepare a solution to be used, to place a reaction in large volumes of substances and to dissolve solids into liquid in the process of making solution. Beaker is different from the erlenmeyer flask which can be seen from its straight side instead of italics. Usually beakers are more often used in basic chemical experiments. Beaker can be covered with glass to prevent contamination and shrinkage of substances. Beakers are often spiked with the size found on the side of the beaker which indicates the volume is accommodated. For example, a beaker with a volume of 250 mL is marked with lines indicating the volume of a contained substance of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mL. The accuracy of this size varies greatly.
